Disney news reveals that Walt Disney World has modified its face mask policy so that masks are no longer required outdoors. Their decision is in alignment with the guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Orange County Mayor Jerry Deming’s decision to remove the outdoor mask requirement for people who are considered fully vaccinated. The new rules went into effect on Saturday, May 15, 2021.
In general, individuals are considered to be fully vaccinated 2 weeks after their second dose with a 2-dose shot, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine.
If you have a condition or are taking medications that weaken your immune system, you may NOT be fully protected even if you are fully vaccinated. Talk to your healthcare provider. Even after vaccination, you may need to continue taking all precautions.
What Are The Disney Mask Requirements?
To break the new ruling down even further, face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) and Cast Members in indoor settings. Guests are asked to bring their own face coverings and wear them in all indoor locations. The exception to this rule is that masks can be removed when eating or drinking and while stationary and maintaining appropriate physical distancing.
Currently face coverings are optional in outdoor common areas at Walt Disney World Resort. But again there are exceptions. These include when guests enter and exit and while within all attractions, theaters and transportation.
Disney Has Changed its Mask Requirements
Disney is reminding guests as to what constitutes an appropriate face mask. The following types of facial coverings are not acceptable based on the guidance they have received from the proper health authorities: neck gaiters, open-chin triangle bandanas, and face coverings containing valves, mesh material, or holes of any kind.
New Disney Face Mask Rules
On Thursday afternoon, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provided a public health update for individuals who have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
Dr. Rochelle Walensky stated that anyone who is fully vaccinated can now participate in indoor and outdoor activities without wearing a face mask or physical distancing.
However travelers will still be required to wear a mask on public transportation such as planes, buses, and trains, traveling into, within, or out of the United States, as well as in U.S. transportation hubs such as airports and stations.
