Travel news reveals that on July 1 a Florida law goes into effect that bans all businesses and corporations in The Sunshine State from requiring patrons to show proof that they have received a COVID-19 vaccination.
Any company that tries to require proof of vaccination, including a “vaccine passport,” faces a fine of $5,000. Cruise ships are not exempt from this law and are also subject to fines if they ask for a vax record when docked in Florida.
Disney Cruise Line Could Face Major Fines
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis told reporters that the fines will be enforced based on his Executive Order which was signed into law on May 3.
“We are going to enforce Florida law,” DeSantis he said Friday at the LifeScience Logistics Distribution Center in Lakeland. “I mean, we have Florida law. We have laws that protect the people and the privacy of our citizens, and we are going to enforce it. In fact, I have no choice but to enforce it.”
Will Disney Cruise Line Ask For Passenger Vaccination Status?
What does this mean for Disney Cruise Line? At the present time it does not have any ships sailing to or from the state of Florida, nor to or from any other US port.
But in July the Magic at Sea UK Disney cruises are set to debut. The suspension of Disney Cruise Line’s US cruise travel for the Disney Dream, the Disney Wonder, and the Disney Fantasy is set to last through July and August.
Florida is the main hub for cruise ships in the United States. The imposition of fines on cruise ships could entail a major bruhaha between DeSantis and the industry about whether or not he has the right to impose fines on a private business.
Norwegian Cruise Line has gone on record stating that they may leave Florida if they cannot ask Guests for proof of vaccination.
Disney Cruises Could Accrues Fines For Asking Passenger Vaccination Status
In contrast Disney’s UK Cruises will require Guests to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken up to five days before the cruise.
At this time Disney Cruise Line has not made an official statement about their policy regarding Guests to show proof of vaccination when they arrive for a Disney Cruise in the US.
DeSantis said he expects the state to win its lawsuit challenging federal restrictions that have stalled the cruise ship industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.
