Disney Cruise Line has just announced some exciting news for guests looking forward to getting their cruise on. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic Disney Cruises, like lines around the world, were forced to shut down. Now the travel industry is cautiously optimistic about summer travel reopening and cruise lines have been making positive announcements in recent days.
Disney Cruise Line has announced that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has approved the cruise line’s request to conduct a two-night simulation cruise.
This means that the Disney Dream is planned to sail from Port Canaveral, Florida, on June 29.
Travel News: In June Disney Will Launch Two-Night Test Cruise
About the test cruise, Disney Cruise Line spokeswoman Cynthia Martinez told the Orlando Sentinel, “We have reached an important next step toward our gradual and responsible resumption of service, and are grateful for the productive dialogue with state, local and federal officials, the CDC, and others in our industry.”
The CDC decided to close the cruise industry down in March 2020 after several COVID-19 outbreaks were tied to ships worldwide. At that time the world itself was going into a lockdown to prevent the spread of the contagious and deadly virus.
Disney Cruises Will Launch Two-Night Test Cruise
In October 2020 the first glimmer of hope for reopening came when the CDC issued a Framework for Conditional Sailing Order for cruise ships operating or seeking to operate in U.S. waters. The guidelines detailed how cruise lines would be able to safely reopen, at the same time placing emphasis on preventing the further spread of COVID-19 on cruise ships and from cruise ships into the community.
Then in April 2021 the CDC announced that ships might be allowed to sail without conducting a required practice voyage. This would be possible if 98 percent of the crew and 95 percent of the passengers have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Nonetheless, Disney is pursuing the test cruise route which could lead to letting their ships sail with non-vaccinated passengers under appropriate health and safety protocols.
Disney Cruises is Set for a Two-Night Test Cruise
According to CDC guidelines the test cruises are between two and seven days in length with at least one overnight stay. Test trips must include the practicing of transferring passengers and crew members with COVID-19 symptoms from cabin rooms to isolation rooms, and the quarantining of passengers and non-essential crew members.
Thomas Mazloum is the president of Disney Signature Experiences he announced, “We now have the green light to conduct our two-night simulation cruise aboard the Disney Dream, from June 29 to July 1. The ship will sail with volunteer passengers and test our newly developed health and safety protocols, which have been meticulously tailored to the current public health environment.”
